Over the winter I installed a new digital thermostat. The furnace worked great all winter. I tried to turn on the AC today and it kicked on then imediatly shut off. I hear the compressor kick in then the thermostat clicks and the compressor shuts off. Any suggestions?

Both furnace fan and outdoor units shuts down after you turn it on?
What is the brand/model of the new t-stat?

Yes, both furnace blower and outdoor fan and compressor shuts down right after I turn it on.
Furnace fan works fine if I just turn it on.
I also noticed that the AC unit has no outside breaker. It is wired directly to the indoor breaker box on a 40 amp breaker. When it shuts down it does not trip the breaker. I don't think this is up to code.
The new t-stat is a LUX TX1500 Wired as such:
Green Wire -- G
Blue Wire -- Y
White Wire -- W
Red Wire -- RH jumped to RC

Ok, for kicks at the t-stat set for cool and then go to the furnace control board where all the wires meet.
Remove the door, then remove the Y wire that goes outside. If the system starts off, then it could be a weak transfromer. If it still don't work, then remove the Y wire from the t-stat on the board.
Let us know what happens.
Do you have a meter?
