I have a JVC XL-M307 CD automatic changer that is giving me trouble. It either won't play my CD-Rs or if it starts playing one, may start playing like it's stuck. I cleaned it with a laser lens cleaner but this didn't seem to help. What DOES seem to help is to play a few manufactured CDs first, like something needs to warm up. Any ideas? Thanks.

Has the unit previously been able to play CD-R?

This is a old unit (circa 1992) and may not even be able to play MP3 files. It may however, burn files that have been saved in .wav format.

I've had no problems in the past playing CD-Rs. I burn them using the format "Audio CD". You're right - this player doesn't play MP-3s. I have an iMac and burn my CDs using iTunes. Anyway, the problem has seemed to get worse and worse gradually. It's very annoying!

Your lens maybe getting out of alignment in which case, the only fix is to get another unit, or have this one repaired. I noticed someone on Ebay selling the same item for $40. Repair cost alone might be this much.

I took the whole thing apart with the thought I had nothing to lose since I planned on getting a new player. It took four hours but I got it working again. I'm thrilled. I don't know if it'll play CD-Rs but now I don't care. Case closed!
