I'm building a sandbox/clubhouse for my daughter and the plans I'm using call for a "rim joist hanger" for the outside joists. It holds two 2x6s with an inner flange (since it will attach to an exterior posts).

I'm having a hard time finding such a joist hanger in my local hardware/Lowe's stores. Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative item to use if I can't find the rim joist hanger?

Hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated -- since I'd rather not try to special order it.

Does the plan have any pictures or drawings of how this is supposed to be put together?

My GUESS is that they are talking about Simpson LU hangers.

Go back to Lowe's (go to the project or contractor's desk) and ask to see a Simpson catalog. Take your plans with you. They can look at the plans and get you the right hanger.

Simpson makes several styles and several sizes of LU hangers. You just need the right style and right size for what you are doing.
