Would the transformer (240 VAC in, 24 VAC out) putting out 80 VAC instead of 24 prevent my blower from coming on for Cool or On but still allow it to run for Heat?

I'm trying to troubleshoot my A/C problem and have already replaced the motor (old motor didn't come on for anything). The motor is wired correctly as far as I can tell, but I will be double checking it. The 80 + or - from the transformer is kind of odd though.

Thanks for any help.

Are you sure you had your meter hooked up right? You can get a false reading if you read from ground to wire....measure voltage between both 24v wires. I've gotten some wild readings in the past by reading from ground to wire. I've never seen a transformer go high once it fails...usually they just fail altogether but I guess it could be possible.

Will the condensor (outside unit) run if you (carefully) push in the contactor? The (normally) green wire from the t/stat is what controls the inside blower.

The "fan" wire, in most cases, activates the blower relay and is used in both heat and cool mode, therefore if the blower is running in heat it should run in cool also.

You may want to post back the model #'s and make of your unit(s) so the real professionals can assist you.
