I own a Bayliner Sierra 1988 with an OMC Cobra 350 engine. Every 2 or 3 year the shifter rod in the lower unit of the outdrive starts sticking in the cover and seal assembly (seperates outdrive oil from exhaust chamber..?) making it impossible to shift. Last winter this became an issue for the 3rd time and the only way I know to fix the problem is to completly remove the outdrive and replace the cover and seal assembly. It seems other boats that are equally as old and get as much use dont have this problem. Is it possible I'm doing something wrong during the install? Or possibley I'm installing the wrong parts? Is there a different cover that can be installed that doesnt have this problem every 3 years?
