I have a GE oven-Model JGBP30 and it will heat up to the temp set and then will not maintain that temp. The burners go off and only come back on if I hit the temp recal and start button. Any ideas?

Hello Toby and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and to the Gas Appliances topic.

Common problem is often a weak HSI. (Hot Surface Igniter) Replacing the glow igniter likely to solve the problem. However, the gas control valve may also be the problem or part of the problem. Replacing both the HSI and the gas control valve at the same time very likely to resolve the problem.

Unless the problem is within the main computer control board. Not as likely as the HSI and Gas Valve. Suggestion would be to replace at least the HSI and note the results.

Retail parts dealers and appliances parts stores can also help determine what the possible problem may be based upon that specific brand and model. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers and appliances parts stores are listed in the phone book.

Cautionary Reminder Note:
Before attempting any repairs, be sure to unplug the appliance from the wall receptacle power source first.

Thanks for the reply,
My oven has two HSI, one for the broil and one for the bake, they are the same. I moved the broil one to the bake one and it works great. Now I have to order a new one to fix the broiler.
