hi folks..this may turn out to be a dumb question..i have a lcd tv..everything is working fine...recently i noticed a shaded black area on the side od the screen about 7 inches in length...it almost looks like a spill...so i wiped it with warm water and this did nothing...i dont think it is dead pixels because you can still see the picture behind this shaded area....it almost looks like something was spilled on the inside of the screen...you can really see it when there is a darker background on the screen.....could something have been spilled into the tv such as when cleaning the small area on the top of it with a damp rag and a little water may have trickled in and stained it.....is this possible or has anyone ever heard of this situation before......thanks scanner

Hopefully nobody spilled anything into your TV.

I am not certain, but I think LCD televisions are backlit because the LCD does not produce it's own light like like a CRT or plasma. If you have a flat panel (not projection) you might have a bad cold cathode (fluorescent) bulb that is used to illuminate the screen. If you have a projection tv then something inside may have gotten onto the LCD or lense. It could be as simple as a dead bug. In either case you probably need professional help ($) or a new TV ($$). Check to see if your TV is still under waranty and look for your receipt.

looks like the cleaning lady swiped the top with wet/ chemical infused cloth or paper towel. i don't think it is a software issue and appears to be lcd issue. if picture is viewable i would leave it alone and enjoy it till something else goes bad.
