I believe our contractor five years ago did a poor job of shimming our new tub and it has sagged on the drain side 1/4 - 1/2 inch. I never seen anything like this happen before. Anyway, is it reasonable to use a car-jack to raise it from below in the basement and reshim? Any warnings or other ideas. THANKS!

Key word -- slow. I am also assuming you mean raising the floor joisting. Don't just lift on the subflooring and tub, as it is most likely the joisting that is sagging. You may need to add support under a couple of joists under the tub to prevent from happening again.
