Hi,
I really need help removing a Cast Iron wood burning stove chimney. When we first moved in here, The wood burning stove was starting to rust-It was made out of cast iron-I tried to save it with LOTS of scrubbing w/steel wool-but it was too far gone-after about a year and a half of me worrying the damn thing was going to burn us all up-My husband got a roaring fire going on the first cold autumn night when, BANG! BANG! The glass shattered and fire came flying out of the open panes-Thankfully we were able to move everything that would have ignited and it eventually went out without causing much damage-Minor smoke and glass pieces melted clear to the carpet padding-He finally agreed and we removed the stove, but the Chimney would not budge..the pipe came out with alot of pulling and stayed attached to the stove-But there is a 2 foot wide cast iron square, it is about 6 inches deep and obviously leads the rest of the chimney to the roof-My husband was a DIY'r who believed everything can be fixed if you wrap enough ducktape around it-and god love him, he passed away before we got it out. I have children in the home, one is only 3 and I am concerned about the rust and mold that must be accumulating in my ceiling and in my childrens lungs. Not to mention it looks horrible. I cannot afford to hire anyone to remove it right now-I read the posts saying that it should just twist out if you pull hard..Not this thing! it doesnt move-There are no screws or bolts that are visible anywhere. Does anyone know anything that will cut through cast iron? or have any other suggestions to get this Isor out of my life? I can cover the hole and repair the celiling damage -I just cant get this thing out or at least cut it down so it is above ceiling level to cover and drywall over!! Please help! Thank you in advance for any solutions.

Hi Dana
Sorry about your husband.
Hit the pipe with a sledge hammer it will break very easy. Cast iron is a brittle metal.
Make sure you wear gogles.
