I have one brown aluminum window. I would like to paint the exterior aluminum frame and trim to match the other windows in the house. After reading conflicting advice, I bought a primer that says it is good for "weathered" anodized aluminum, along with many other types of material. I scrubbed the surface clean, and started to paint, although the primer seems to go on very uneven.
Also, I now realize that the brown tracks on the side of the frame in front of the bottom sash will show. I don't want to prime and paint the tracks because the window may not open easily. Would it be better to change tactics and use a spray paint made for metal, like rustoleum. I think this would go on thinner over the tracks. Also, should I remove the latex based primer I already started to put on, or just spray paint over it? Maybe it is best just to leave this part brown. Advice? Thanks, Jkm

I would replace the window
look around for used building supplies , you should be able to get one in your color at a reasonable price

It doesn't really matter what type of paint or application you use on the tracks - some of it will come off with use
I seldom use a primer on aluminum, I'd either coat with a good oil base enamel or use latex with emulsa bond added to the first coat. I never paint the tracks except under protest.
