We are considering a new central air unit (only) we have an aging Lennox contractor series unit that was installed when the home was built and we never felt like it was very good. The system still works but we visited a friend a couple years ago and was astounded by their Lennox Elite system that we thought we would find a dealer local that had them and get a price.
I just about fainted when I got the proposal to install a new compressor XC21 and new A coil over our existing system (heating system that we do not use very often because we have a gas fireplace that heats the whole house).
They also proposed to install additional insulation 9" more than we have I believe we have 6" now they say only 3" but I have been up there and it comes up to my knees. That for about $1000
Duct cleaning is also provided for $540
Our home is about 1400 sq ft and about 11 years old.
Any feedback would be appreciated, we are looking to get another bid before we pull the trigger.
Thank you!

First, never get any less than 3 estimates.
Just because your friends house cools great with a Lennox doesn't mean you can't get the same thing from a Carrier, York, Trane, Or Amarican Standard (which owns Trane).
I don't think I've ever seen a dealer who had a duct cleaning crew. This is probably a sub out for them. And unless you keep a filthy, dusty house I doubt you need the ducts cleaned. But if know how to operate a screwdriver and flashlight, you could certainly take a few registers off and look inside the duct to check it out.
Go to Lowes and get your own insulation for $25 a roll. Blow in insulation is about $10 a box.
Also an XC21 is 410A, you didn't mention changeing the linset.
