I'd like to set up a wireless camera system for my home. I have rather specific requirements: 3 or 4 outdoor wireless cameras with the ability to record, via PC, VCR or DVR, video (day or night) when triggered by a motion sensor. Without inviting advertisements, anyone have good suggestions as to where to acquire such a system? I looked at x-10, but their stuff appears to be incredibly inexpensive, and I'd rather pay for quality up front.

Take a look at www.supercircuits.com. Even if you don't buy from them, they provide a wealth of general video camera information so you can sort out what you need, and don't need. Just be aware that any real quality for a camera, especially wireless, doesn't come cheap.

Most cameras do not have a motion sensor. They just record what they see 24 hours a day. Most DVR's have several motion detection options. Basically you program the DVR to record in low quality slow mode until motion is detected and then it kicks into high quality high speed mode.

Cameras that work well by day is easy. Cameras that work well in twilight or darkness is where it starts to get more expensive. I still have not found a camera with built in IR illuminators that does half of what was advertised. If the catalog says "see in total darkness to 70ft." It really means that you can barely see a grainy ghost at 70ft., you can discern a human form at 50ft., you can see facial features at 30ft., and can begin to recognize someone at 20ft.
