I just picked up 1 of these at costco (seems healthy). It is about 4 ft tall. I'm trying to decide where to put it in my yard. I don't want it to grow and block windows of my house. the lable on the tree says it grows 10-12 ft, but the sites i've read on the internet say 4-7ft. Any idea which is more accurate? Also, I have read that they grow wide...how far from the house should it be planted?

Thanks for any help

Size at maturity of red dragon will depend upon variety. High grafted tend to be taller, and low grafted are weepy. They tend to grow wider than tall. 4-7' high is more like it. Remember it will be wider than tall, so it will need adequate space around it. Be cautious if planting in full sun. These little maples make a great focal point in a bed. Bright dappled light really seems to keep their color looking it's best and keeps leaves from getting sunburned. Their roots, I believe, are fibrous and should not harm sidewalk or foundation.
