We have the tstat set at 76 deg and the air runs most all day long. I put a thermometer at the tstat and it shows 76.8 deg. The outlet register is 60deg and the intake vent shows 72deg. All readings taken from same room, tstat is opposite side of room from in/out registers. Outside temp got to approx 80deg today. The house is mostly full sun with only shade till 10am then again shady around 8pm. 1000sqft house, think its a 1 ton unit, the system is older(not sure of age) and the condenser was replaced in '02(tree fell on it). I have not checked the pressure readings but think the system may be low on freon. Does all this sound about right? I hate to call a HVAC guy for him to tell me its all ok. Then of course my wife would get to say " I told ya so". We have our house on the market and dont want to spend money that I dont need too. But want the system working properly for the summer. Thanks for any help.

One ton & 1000 sq.ft. in S.C., unless the house is insulated like a good styrofoam cooler, the equipment is too small. If ducts are in the attic, make sure all the insulation on them is intact & there are no air leaks.

The duct work is in the crawlspace/basement and are tightly wrapped with insulation.

When you are posting here make, model, and serial numbers help a great deal. You may think one ton but the model number will tell the tale.
Is the filter clean? Can you use a 5/16 nut driver and access the blower compartment? Are the blades clean?
60 degrees verses 72 means 12 degree split on the indoor coil.
Could also be short on charge with or without an air flow problem.
