I have a 1950 Moffat Super Deluxe stove. I hhoked it up to a bbq reg and tank to test it (propane). The flame is a little yellow on high, could it be natural gas. How can I tell?

Be what you describe, it sounds like it is set up for natural gas. With out breaking it apart and checking orifice sizes and pressure it's hard to tell for sure.

I would look for any tags on it that would indicate such or try to find out from who ever you get it from.

After a bit more research I discovered it was set up for natural gas. I need to screw down the orfice, these old stoves had adjustable ones and adjust the air intake. Also screw in the pilot adjustment.

In addition to the orifices, there may or may not be a pressure regulator somewhere in the vicinity of the gas inlet of the range. If there is, there should also be an adjustment. In most cases it's a matter of removing a hex piece off the head of the regulator and turning it upside down. I do not know specifically for your's as I'm not that familiar with the older models.
