I would like to (finally) comply with building code in our county by adding a sump in our basement floor to catch grey water from our shower, sink, stationary tubs, and black water from one toilet. We currently have all the grey water sources and one urinal draining into the storm sewer. I know, it's a big no no! The plumbing was this way when we bought the house 30 years ago. The shower and urinal are practically never used. But if I install a standard potty and a sump to pump the "stuff" up to the septic system we would not only be legal but we may use this bathroom more.
My questions are . . .
1. Can a sump handle a toilet?
2. Does a sump act like a macerater and allow a 1" pipe to carry the "stuff" up 7 feet to the septic system drain line?
3. Would a sump require a dedicated vent thru roof? (this may be the show stopper)
Any comments or suggestions? Thanks, Larry

Sump pumps pump only water; you don't use a sump pump with a toilet.
Sewage pumps or grinder pumps are designed to handle waste from toilets. The container that receives the sewage and also holds the sewage pump is about the size of a large garbage can and it does need to be vented.
