Hello, I moved into a new home three weeks ago. My toilet bowl doesn't retain water. The plumbers have done the following without fixing the problem: changed the toilet bowl, changed refill tube, changed ballcock assembly. I asked them if it might not be vented correctly and they said that wasn't the problem because it is flushing fine. It flushes fine but then the water inside the toilet bowl doesn't fill up very high. Sometimes it is only as high as the hole opening. Sometimes it fills up a few inches and then gradually drains out, (eventually stopping). The plumbers don't seem to know what might be causing this. When they removed the toilet bowl, they didn't see any leakage around the toilet. Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks,
Melinda

The common problem of toilets not retaining water is usually due to a clogged vent pipe. If you can access vent pipe on roof and can run water down the pipe, this may open the clog. If not, then a plumber can run a snake or auger down the vent.

I agree with twelvepole. Sounds like a vent issue. Which model toilet is it just out of curiosity?

Thanks for the responses, I am going to tell the plumber to do exactly that. The toilet is a Mansfield brand.
