Any resident satellite installers on the forum? Looking for help in wiring the coaxial cable in my basement so that when its finished I can have satellite TV down there.

Current setup - I have a Dish Network 801 HD receiver with a Dish 500. Satellite wiring runs to a cabinet in my family room where it connects to my 801 receiver. I am assuming that I should run a wire from this cabinet to the location in the basement. Is this correct?

My planned system will be the new HD DVR for the main family room and then a HD receiver for the basement.

I would like to the coax in place and the basement finished before I call Dish Network for an uprade.

THANKS!

What's your question?

You have to have seperate receivers for each TV. If you don't, whatever channel you select is on that other TV as well.

Running coax is fairly easy, especially if you have rough in walls.

Are you putting up walls in the basement?

I would run two RG6 coax cable to your new site. Many of the newer receivers have dual tuners and require two feeds. You could even run a third line for over the air local channels. It's easy to do now with the walls open.
You could also run a large conduit for later pulling of more cables.

a telephone line for the dish receiver also.

I'm not sure about the new ones, but my 301 boxes needed a phone line.

cbrynolf,
Not exactly: You will need an RG6 run from the new dish direct to each receiver. Dual tuners only require one rg6 coax. It will come with a seperator.

If you will have a 3rd tv, it will prolly be TV2 off the 622 dual tuner. A coax run from the Dual tuner 622 DVR would be nice for the third tv as TV2.
If locals (HD) aren't available in you area yet a coax from an OTA antenna would be nice from antenna to each HD receiver.

You only need phone lines for Dual tuners (save $5) unless you want to order PPV via the remote. The 301 mentioned previously does not require a phone line. The 622 DVR you get will.

Do yourself a favor and call a local retailer, he'll probably do a free site survey for you.
