View Full Version : Stone over Brick...

I am about to reface my fireplace. It is on a 17 foot wall with a step that is 1 foot off the ground and two feet deep which runs the full 17 feet of the wall. The width in the center is about 8 feet, which runs floor to ceiling.

Currently everything is brick, and it was built in 1964. What I want to do is either cover the full step and up to about a foot above the fireplace with stone, and then use a dark wood paneling from there up.

Here are my questions.

How should I reface the fireplace? Should I remove the brick completely, or should I just cover the brick? If I cover the brick, how should I do it?

I have more questions, but I will start with that.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
