Hello to all,

When I turn on my Carrier unit(48GS) package air conditioner my condenser fan and compressor does not turn on. Only Indoor fam motor turns on.
Please help me out what may be a problem.

Thank you

If the outdoor unit nor condensing fan is coming on, but the indoor fan is, most likely your problem is either in the contactors or fuses. Insects (ants in particular!) love to crawl up inside contactors. When the points open, they crawl in...and when the points close, SMASH! You get enough ant carcasses in between them, and your AC system can't recieve electricity to start. This is true, regardless of the equipment manufacturer.

We can put men on the moon, send a camera to Mars, but we don't have the technology to make a sealed contactor!

*NOTE* Very high voltage runs through outdoor condensing units. If you don't know how to test for voltage, please consult a professional heating & air person!

rgulk, You obviously have a problem there. But unless we get a sense that you have a clue with a meter, we can't give you advice as to how to troubleshoot.

We need to have a warm fuzzy feeling we aren't going to get you doing the 220 volt mombo. At least I do.

Did you check the breaker?

Since this is a package unit & the circulating fan runs, I doubt there is a problem with the contactor if it is a cooling only unit. If that is the case, my money would be on either a pressure switch or a bad dual capacitor. Many package units use a dual capacitor for the compressor/condenser fan & a separate single cap for the circulating fan.

Thank you all who responded to my problem.
This is a Gas Heating/Electric Cooling Unit. I will try to change capacitor and see what happens. If that won't work I wiill then try to change contactor.
Thank you again.
