I have recently been breaking down a big old (mostly cedar) deck and have been planning on building a screen room. Money has been increasingly tight as of late. I need to get rid of all of this wood and will likely need a 30 yard dumpster, which by me will run $500 easy.
Here is what I was thinking, I rent a good 6” wood chipper and go to town on all of the wood, I need the chips anyway for some landscaping areas. Am I nuts? Most of the wood is either 2x6, 5/4x6 or 4x4. There are a couple of 2x8 as well. I know it will be much cheaper to rent the chipper than to get the dumpster and the mulch. Sounds like a great idea to me but it almost sounds too easy.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance (I wont be back on until tomorrow),
Chris

You don't want to chip dimension lumber in a commercial chipper. The wood is dry, and the feedback on the chipper will be enormous, and dangerous.

Thanks Chandler, it seems that you are right, besides the fact that some of the wood is likely CCA treated. Don't want to kill everyone in the neighborhood that drinks the water.
