we are hoping to use ash tongue and groove on our cottage ceiling but are concerned about it popping the nails over the winter when there is no heat in the building - and suggestions or will this not be a problem?

Wood needs to acclimate (adjust) to temperature and humidity in rooms where it is to be installed for a few days before installing. Temperature and humidity should be maintained year round for best performance. Temperature around 70 degrees and humidity 35-55%. Expansion gap is important. As wood takes on humidity, it expands. When humidity is low, it contracts. Wider planks are not as dimensionally stable as 2 1/4" strip flooring. If installed with flooring cleats, nails should not pop.
