Hi everyone, I a new to this site and I have a question. I notice some dry rot on the basement ceiling with a still damp area. This is right under the bathtub- I know because there was a area cut out where I can see the tub!!! Is this the pipes in the wall that have a leak or what, something I can fix myself or do I need to get a plumber in ?? My tub is completly tiled so I know it will be a job to tear it all down to get at the pipes... Thanks for all your help in advance.

Well that depends where the leak is coming from. Do you see exactly what the water is dripping off of?
If it is the drain pipes sounds like you can get to em. if it is coming off the valve in the wall that the shower head is attached to that is a whole nother issue.
First trick is to get a flashlight and track down exactly what pipe is leaking the water. If you can figure that out..we may be able to help guide you through fixing it.
If your tub has a single handle with round plate behind it, you may be able to remove that as well to look inside the wall behind it to check for leaks.

What condition is the tile and grout in? Is the shower curtain used properly to make sure no water drips to the floor? Very common....
Take a bucket of water from another faucet and pour it down this drain... if it leaks, you know its the drain plumbing.
Do you usually take baths or showers? The reason I ask is cause it may be the overflow is loose.
What type of faucet is it?
