What are the options ie: take off old laminate or affix new laminate on the old etc. Are there any new processes out there? Thanks

Some report success covering old laminate with new on counters with square edges. The job requires special laminate blades and router. Many counters are preformed with integral backsplash and rolled edges and can not be recovered.

The easiest option is to purchase a new countertop. You can take your measurements to a local kitchen retailer for a quote on a new counter. Some purchase the slabs at home centers and do their own cut outs for sinks and appliances and apply end caps. Some home centers will cut the mitres for the corners.

I just relaminated mine last week. The were square edged. I got roughed up the old counter top laminate with 80 grit, dusted them and laid on the new stuff. You do need a router and a flush cut bit (I found one specificly for laminates at Menards for about 20 bucks). Takes some time but it's pretty easy. I cut the new stuff like drywall. Score the UNDERSIDE of the new laminate and CAREFULLY snap it up (away from the pretty side) a few inches at a time.

Good luck.
