Hi guys, I need your help...
I have a DSC PC3000 security system. Because of the lost codes, I had to perform a reset to factory defaults. Now all 16 zone lights on the keypad are ON. At this point I can program users codes but the system cannot be armed/disarmed. I understand that I have to program zones - just don't know how... I can get into the user: * 5 1234 or installer programming mode: * 8 3000. I guess the zone has to be programmed by the installer. So we have: * 8 3000 then what?
Is there a computer utility that can upload the file to the security system? I would really appreciate any help! Thanks.

If you were able to perform a hardware default, I am assuming that you have an installation manual for this system.

There is software for doing this, but is was designed for installers doing multiple similar systems, and is both a bit finicky in terms of hardware requirements, and has as much of a learning curve as the basic panel programming.

Typical of a DSC default you have two basic issues: The system defaulted to requiring the zone resistors, which apparently, no one ever installs on DSC hardware. To fix this, go to programming section 18 and turn on option 5.

For the zone programming, you just have to list out what your zones are supposed to be doing, then enter the appropriate zone type in programming section 16. Give your manual a read over, especially the information on page 14 that tells you how to enter the data. It's not that arcane, you just have to do it step by step.

Thanks MrRonFL for quick reply.
Yes, I do have programming manual, just cannot make sense out of section
[16] and [17]. Why zones are divided into 2 groups? How do you program each and everyone?
I would like to have 16 ZONES: 2 DELAYED (front and garage door) and 14 INSTANT (motion detectors, window/patio door sensors etc.)
Let's say I would like to program ZONE 1 as audible delayed, what would be the key sequence? * 8 3000 ...then what?
Maybe you can help me here?

First, start by listing out your zones and what they are, in order. They are broken into two groups in the programming, because the eeprom chips of the era when this this was designed had limits. Also, 8 zone groupings are pretty much the industry standard.

You enter this information all at one time. There _is_ a way to jump to a specific zone, but for the non-professional, it's easier to simply enter all 8 section entries in a group.

Instant is not always what you want. Motion detectors, for example should be interior zones, otherwise you have issues like them triggering the chime feature every time you walk by.

For example if I was programming the first 8 zones with zone 1 as delay, zone 2 as a motion (interior stay/away that auto bypasses in stay mode)and the other 6 as instant zones, I would go to program, (*8 + installer code);
16
00 03 01 01 01 01 01 01
(at which point it beeps about 5 times and waits for the next section entry command).

Thanks MrRonFL,
It makes a lot of sense now. Finally I have someting to start with.
I will let you know how I made out. And last question: Do I have to set a clock on the system?

Yup, all DSC panels require the internal clock to be set.
