I want a one ton package unit for a 500 sq ft room addition in Central Texas. I've seen some ductless wall mounted units on portable buildings. Needs to heat and cool. Any recommendations for a quality unit at a decent price?

It sounds like you're describing units normally seen on portable classrooms, etc. Bard has them in a one ton size with electric heat [I didn't see a heat pump in this size at their website www.bardhvac.com]. You might also consider a PTAC [motel room type unit] which you can get as a heat pump or with electric heat. Friedrich is a good brand and they're made in San Antonio [www.friedrich.com]. You could also choose a window/wall type unit of which there are many choices but Friedrich is a good one. You could also look into a ductless mini-split like Mr. Slim [made by mitsubishi, good unit www.mrslim.com Friedrich also makes them].

The mini-splits (ductless) really do a good job and unlike thru the wall units are very quiet. SEER ratings are now in the 14-21 range but they are not cheap.
