I want to construct a simple, but strudy and attractive wooden handrail on one side of a flagstone walkway that I've constructed on a hillside in my backyard. The flagstone walkway is steeply sloped and has one easy curve within approx. 11-12 linear feet. Can anyone give me--a real novice--some help on how to construct this handrail or direct me to a reliable website or publication where I can find instructions. Thank you. Buddman1

A simple wood rail system would consist of a series of treated 4x4 posts along the walkway with a rail attached to the posts. The posts would be notched on top to accept a 2x4 installed on its edge. Then another 2x4 would be laid flat on top of the first one to complete that section of rail. The top piece could be made of composite deck planking for a smoother surface and a longer-lasting structure.
