I have a quick and easy question.
I am finishing my basement and there is a small room framed out that I want to maximize my head room..
There are NO overhead pipes or electrical conduit or gas lines in this room.
There is one flexible air vent that is between the floor joists.
I was wondering can I just attach the drywall directly to the floor joists since there are no pipes in the way. I would probably add some 2x4 supports between the floor joists to add some support, but the drywall would sit flush against the bottom of the joists.
Can anyone see any problem with this method and is it against any type of code?
Thanks

This is absolutely the way to go. It is the norm. You don't have to add any bracing between the joisting to make it "stronger", but you can if it makes you feel good. I remodel so many with pipes, A/C, wiring in the way, be glad you have a pristine ceiling to attach it to. Good luck with the project.
