We recently ripped down the wallpaper on our dining room, and have small damaged area. It is roughly 16" tall and 6" wide. The links below show the pictures.

What is the best method to repair this? We plan to paint the walls.

Have you had any termite damage previously in this area? From the pitting it looks as if something has been boring from behind. I don't want to alarm you, and I am not seeing it up close and personal, but generally we just skim coat the damaged area and sand it down. It may take a couple of coats with a 9" knife to get a smooth finish.

It looks like the paper face was torn of of the drywall, if that's the case you should first prime those areas with a solvent based primer. That will prevent the moisture in joint compound or latex paint from lifting the surrounding paper.
