I have a 5" flue that previously serviced a 100,000 btu furnace and a 40,000 btu water heater. I will replace the furnace with a 90% unit shortly, venting that separately through the usual PVC pipes. I replaced the water heater with a unit that requires a 4" vent, has 65,000 btu input.

Is it OK to leave the flue at 5" for just the water heater?
