I was told years ago to thin out the first coat of poly (minwax poly floor) with mineral spirts. Is this still done.If still done what is best ratio.The back of the can says to put the first coat on thin.

It is not really a good idea. Finishes of today, are not what they were 5 years ago.

I would use a universal sealer, like Parkers or Zinser, universal sealer.
