How can I tell by model and/or serial number how old my washing machine is? It is acting up and we are debating replacement. We bought it used so don't know what year it was made. I know you can tell by the numbers... can somebody tell me how?
It is Model 110.28902790 (90 series) with Serial CB2403493. I am guessing perhaps the "93" is the year it was made?
Thanks!

No pro here, but I would guess the same thing according to this:
http://www.applianceaid.com/appliance_age.html
(Under Sears-Kenmore)
and this (Product Serial Number Identification):

Check back as others may chime in. You can also call Sears and they should be able to help you out)

Wow! You rock, DIYAddict!
Your links and info told me my washer was "born" in 1997, so is now 10 years old and was built by Whirlpool. Hmmm. To replace or repair?
We have a bad timer, cost is $172 labor + parts to fix per my repair guy. Is it worth investing another $172 into a 10 year old machine? Thoughts?
THANKS for your SPEEDY help!!!!!! :)

lol... :D
Well...IMO...it's really up to you. Washing machines have an "estimated life" of 8-12 years. Though...I've heard others get some really good years (more) out of their washing machines.
It's hard to really tell for sure. If you can get a few more years out of your washing machine and pay the $172, I don't see why not. Sure beats coughing up more money for a brand new one.
Also, it would depend on what your plan is on purchasing a new one. For example, if you decided on buying a brand new one, how much are you willing to spend, or wanting to spend? Right? Since washing machine prices vary... from $299 or so (on sale) to $1,600+ (roughly), that would determine or help in what you should decide.
Just some thoughts. :)
