I was given a Lavender plant for my birthday. I put it in a pot with fresh soil. I added the fish fertilizer to it. the leaves are turning brown and the purple is dying. How do I care for a Lavender plant.

Hi Debora, welcome to the DoItYourself.com forums :)
Sorry, your thread hasn't been answered yet and that your lavender is not doing so well :(. Not the pro around here, but lavender likes good drainage and at least 5 hours of direct sunlight.
An inch of loose gravel on the bottom of the pot would be good. When you said fresh soil was it potting soil? It should be potting soil. You can mix it with perlite.
If may have looked good and healthy when it was bought and given to you, but it may not have been. That would be unknown though.
Happy be-lated bday.
Please check back as others may chime in.

The soil for the Lavender is potting soil. It is in direct sun light all day on my patio. So I will get some gravel to put in the bottom of the pot and see if it works. Thanks Debora

Lavender can be tricky to grow in pots. It prefers slightly crowded roots, so pot should only be about an inch larger than the root ball. Soil must be well-drained. Wet soil can kill lavender. Lavender likes it hot and dry, but not too dry. Water only when soil is dry.
