I recently purchased a hampton bay fan, and the only way to control the fan/light is with the wireless remote. This remote uses a 12v battery and seems to run out of juice after using the remote for about 5 times. I have had it installed 3 days and I am working on the 3rd battery already. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
And is there a switch I can install on the wall to control the fan speed as well as the light? Would I be able to hook this up since it only came with the remote control option. Thanks for the help.

There is definitely something wrong with the remote, either a button is locked in the pushed position, or a direct short to ground. These lithium batteries usually last for a year or more. You are using the correct 12v battery, right? You can install a switch on the wall, but it will only turn on or off the fan/light in combination unless there is a third wire in the junction box. Have you looked inside the switch junction, yet?

I haven't looked in the box yet. There is a switch on the wall that powers the fan, I need to use this at the current time to control the fan. I put a new batt in the controller, set the fan to the setting I want and then use the wall switch to turn the power on/off. It stays at the setting you put it on before the batt dies.
As for the correct batt, it is a 12v batt, I am not possitive on the number in front of the 21/23, but believe it is M21/23. How could I verify a short in the remote?
