I recently purchased a 2001 bowrider with a 4.3L Volvo Penta outdrive. After my first time on the water I noticed a bit of gear oil leaking from the base of the propeller. I'm assuming I need to replace the seals in the lower unit gearcase. I drained the gear oil and removed the prop but don't really know how to proceed from there. There was a bolt inside that I was able to get loose and a screw through the the exterior of the drive with a star head on it that I loosened up but I can't seem to get that piece to slide out. Is there something else holding it in that I am not aware of or do I need a special tool to pull it out, I have a gear puller but the arms will not fit in the unit to pull it out. I understand there are 2 seals in there I will need to change at that point. Any advice on this process would be greatly appreciated.
