Hi all ive been a member for a while now and have found most information i needed in the search function but im now in need of some help. I just refinished my basement and am ready for carpet. The floor has 2 layers of asbestos tile which im going to carpet over but all along the edge where i had a french drain installed the tile was broken up about 18 inches from the wall and i now have about a 1/4 inch drop from the tile to the concrete which im looking to feather in to make it look smooth. Im looking for a product that i can use for this purpose. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A cement-based self-leveling compound should meet your needs in filling in the lower area to make the floor flat.

Thank you for the quick reply. So basically im just feathering in this product up to tile not over it. Do they make a material other than concrete or is this my only choice.

The problem with a self leveling compound is just that, it's self leveling. That isn't what you're trying to accomplish here. You're trying to feather from the tile height to nothing and self leveler won't do that. There are two products I'd recommend. Either Mapei Planipatch or Ardex Feather edge. Both work well for this sort of thing. I would make one suggestion though. Getting the strip to stay put over a patch will be an issue if you're going over pad and stretching it in. I would put the strip down first and then end the feather about an inch or so shy of the strip. If you're doing a glue down, disregard.
