Can anyone tell me why some wall ovens are ok to install under a cooktop and others are not?

Ok, I have an answer.

First, some wall ovens are too tall to fit under a cooktop. It is very important to know how much height you have available before buying. I have read that some take the bottom out of the cabinet to gain more space. F

Further, a 30" wall oven will not fit into a 30" cabinet. Very important for kitchen design. (I'm a bit disappointed that the kitchen planners at Ikea did not advise on this.) Basically, because of the width of the cabinet frame itself, you only have a 28.5 inch wide gap.

And finally, although you can buy any wall oven that will fit and put it under the cooktop (and many have done so), if the installation manual says that this wall oven is not approved for under the counter use and there is a problem your warranty will be void and if the problem should be something like the house burning down, your insurance may be void if it is proven that the wall oven caused the problem.

It is supposed to say on the cooktop box which wall ovens are approved for use with that particular cooktop. It will also say in the instruction manual for the wall oven if it is approved for under counter use and there is supposed to be a sticker on top of the oven which says if it is approved for under cooktop use.
