I am completly remodeling an older 1970 something mobile home, and I am wanting to install recessed lighting. I was wondering if this was ok and how to do it the right way??

Given the shallow height between the ceiling and the roof I doubt that you will be able to find any housings that shallow.

I agree, there isn't much room to work with in the older MHs, not any good ways/place to mount it either since the ceiling framing consists of 1x2s.

They do make recessed fixtures that can be installed in as little as three and a half inches, if you have that much room to work with. If you live in an area that uses a lot of heating or cooling, however, it would seriously reduce the insulating value of your ceiling.
