I have a deck that was built just last summer out of PT. Wasn't sure exactly how long to wait to stain/finish it and ran out of time last season so it didn't get done.
In the mean time my wife accidentally knocked over one of those outdoor Citronella candles and it spilled liquified wax across 2 of the deck boards.
I scraped up the majority of the wax with a scraper but am left with a spot about the size of a cd-rom disc across the 2 boards.
Does anyone have some advice on good ways to remove the "stain"? from the wood before I stain/finish my deck? It still feels waxy.
I'm thinking about sanding but wanted to post before I did something that I wouldn't be able to "undo".
thanks!
JOE

Joe, welcome to that elite club. It is so odd the same thing would happen twice in the world, but my wife did the same thing. Not to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I doubt you will be able to rid the area completely of the wax. Mine is still there after 7 years, even after scraping, cleaning with MEK, lacquer thinner, and pressure washing with hot water. Good luck, maybe you could put a table or chair over it.

A little mineral spirits followed by blotting with a clean towel or paper towels might lift some of the wax, but Chandler's right on that you're not going to get all of this out. Sorry.
