My husband recently replaced the wiring for a switched receptacle in order to add a light switch and fixture. Everything works brilliantly and he did an excellent job, but we now have an odd situation.
All of our light fixtures have energy saving bulbs, and we have not experienced any problems with them. However, since the re-wiring, the upright lamp plugged into the switched receptacle started to 'flash' when the power was turned off. We replaced the bulb with another similar, and the flashing stopped. The energy savers were Sylvania mini-spirals.
Has anyone else experienced this? or does anyone have an explanation?

He could have wired the old fixture in series with the new light. Please tell us the wire connections your husband made to make the installation.

Is it a bright flash or a flicker?
This is usually caused by frequency. Radios, remotes, electronics, microwaves, unique appliances, and others can sometimes cause it to flicker
because the ballast reacts to the frequency waves and changes.
There is a ballast in every fluorescent light fixture; to regulate power and keep lamp lighting steady and long lasting. It is probably just a frequency thing. If it is really annoying, just use incandescents.
