I bought a light for my daughter's room that turned out to be one with an end to be plugged in. I want to hang it from her ceiling like a chandilier. It has the chain to be hung from a hook, but is it possible to hard wire it into a switch (there is power in the ceiling for a ceiling light). Thanks, RD

Welcome to the forums. You may have to do some modifications, like adding a bell to the top with a ring or hook, similar to swag lamps, but you can wire the fixture directly to the ceiling box and use the switch to activate it. But you must support it with the chain, as it can't hang directly by the cord. Check in the lighting department at one of the big box stores for parts.
