We took down a bunch of wallpaper and now there is a lot of drywall where the paper has been peeled back. I need to put some type of sealer over the exposed paper before tring to apply a skim coat of joint compound. Recommendations anyone????

Thanks

You need to FIRST coat the exposed gypsum with a solvent based primer. Pigmented shellac is ideal but an oil base primer will be fine.

I use Zinsser Gardz.

I used drywall conditioner/primer from Sherwin Williams. (My first time to ever go in that store) and it worked beautifully.

We use gardz any time the paper is loose,we also add a quart of gardz to the compound with excellent results.good luck b
