I am installing a zero clearance woodburning fireplace. I am building a wood frame chase to accommadate the stove & the triple wall stack, which extends 24" outside the house. I would like to build a brick surround & hearth using traditional brick. Local building codes will not allow me to use brick over my wood floor. I have 2x10 floor joist that run prependicular to the fireplace. The room is over a crawl space appox. 3 ft. with a concrete slab. Any ideas how I can support the hearth by using block/or concrete?????
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Building codes vary from area to area. You say, "Local building codes will not allow me to use brick over my wood floor." What do they allow?

Almost every code prohibits supporting masony on wood framing. You can tie veneer to wood frame walls with flexible ties though.
You could support the hearth on concrete in the crawl space, but it is doubtful that the concrete slab in a crawl space would be thick enough.
Contact your building inspector and ask him how he would do it.
