I have a maytag gas oven range. The stovetop works fine but when I turn on the oven it is slow to heat and there is a whooshing sound like it just ignited all of a sudden. Also there is a gas smell that permeated the home.
Moved the unit recently to clean behind and thought maybe could be not connected right but then wouldnt' the range not be working either. Unit is about 12 years old.

Thanks

Hello j5walkers. Welcome to Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Check the area around the burner tube where the igniter is. Likely to see a white powdery residue. If so, clean the area. The powder is residue from the gas fuel used. A common occurrence.

The powder causes a delay of the burner to light up and other similar problems including a slight gas odor until the burner finally lights. And also check that each side of the burner lights and it has flames at every port/hole in the burner. If not, those without flames indicate the holes/ports/slots are clogged up too. Burner needs cleaning.

Cautionary Reminder Note:
Before attempting any repairs, be sure to unplug the appliance from the wall receptacle power source first.
