I need to repair some loose mortar on the inside of my fireplace.
Only about 3 inches.
I have read and know about the refractory mortars.
My question is regarding what I have read about the so called "fireplace mortars" in a caulk tube. Many have said this can be used. I even saw a "home repair" book which used it. Even had a picture of repointing a joint with the stuff(Rutlands)
Now here is my question. On the package/tube (I have seen 3 different brands), they say it should be used for 1/8" wide and 1/8" deep joints/cracks at the most. So does this mean I can not use this stuff to fill in a 1/4" to 3/8" joint?
Thanks
