about to re do my kitchen. I was wondering what is the standard size sheet rock for the exterior walls. I am assuming 1/2 inch.

1/2" is pretty much the industry standard
5/8" is used on fire walls [common wall between units] and does a better job on ceilings
3/8" pretty much a thing of the past - used to be used on cheaper home walls
1/4" used on curved walls, doubled up to match the 1/2" walls. Also used on mobile home walls.
