I have a Mastercool swamp cooler that works great except for the following: I prefer the fan to run on low, and therefore I keep the switch on 'low.' However, I have noticed that when the fan starts, it always initializes in the high mode and then 'drops' to the low mode after it gets going (approx 2 seconds). First question: Is that normal?

Second (the actual 'problem') - Once every few times, it does not make it down to the low mode and proceeds to run in high mode. I have tried cycling the low/high switch while it is running with no luck of getting it into low. I have to either wait for the cooling to complete OR turn the thermostat off myself, wait for it to complete its 'shutdown,' and then turn it back on....hoping it will 'drop' down to low mode upon start-up. What is this caused by and what (if anything) can I do about this?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I assume you have one of the new models w/ digital controls. If these still use the same two speed motor like they always had,I'd buy a single pole double throw toggle switch to control the motor. I wonder why something "NEW and IMPROVED" sometimes isn't as reliable and trouble free as the one it replaced.
