My BBq is natural gas and I am moving out to the country, gotta go propane. I was going to fill the orifaces with sil-phos + drill out the new size with a thumb drill. Other than a regulator, does anything else need adjustments? It's $200 dollars for the conversion kit and I would prefer to save the money.

Hello Broods and Welcome into the Gas Appliances topic.

$200.00 for a conversion kit???
What parts exactly are contained in the $200.00 kit?
I must be missing something here...???

All that is needed for the bbq is a propane regulator and propane orifices. Plus any connection parts needed to connect bbq to a propane supply line.

In my opinion and based only upon the information provided, buy the regulator and number of pre drilled orifices needed before moving. Visit any local appliances parts retail store.

Attempting to fill orifices, then re drilling them not really advisable. Not as easy as it seems nor appears to be. Orifices are not that costly.

Best Regards and Good Luck.

Thank you very much for the reply. I suppose I just match up the btu's with the oriface sizes(propane, of course). My concern was whether the threads would match the original ones. The manufacturer was charging $172.05 Canadian to be exact for the conversion kit. This included a new rating plate. I know of a few places I can probably find propane orifaces.

Hello: Broods

Yes. The threads are the same on orifices for either fuel types.

Purchase new propane orifices of the same Btu ratings. Install any new fuel regulator that comes with the kit. Removing the existing one first. Then soap test all fittings you removed and/or installed and connections you made for leaks. Job should be done at this point...
