I have three shelfs stacked on a wall. I would like to use rope lighting on these shelfs and control them with a dimmer switch.

Can I run the rope lighting cord into the wall directly to the switch? Or do I have to wire three outlets(not appealing to the eye)?

You can't run the rope lighting cord directly "into" the wall. It must remain exposed. You can install a quad plex receptacle and plug all three into that rather than 3 separate receptacles.

You cannot use a dimmer switch to control the receptacle(s). If you want to dim these lights you must use a plug in type dimmer.

My garage is on the back side of this room. What if I ran 3/4 condoit through the wall and plugged them in the garage?

Absolutely not.

Any thoughts or suggestions, if I do not want to put three outlets on the wall?

Presumably you will have stuff on the shelves. Why not install the new outlets directly above each shelf and plug the rope light into them. The wires will be mostly hidden by the stuff on the shelves.

Place a single receptacle on the wall, use a plug in dimmer and use a receptacle strip.
