The light on the house, by the door, is made of brass. Some years ago it began showing quite a bit of tarnish, so I took it down, removed the laquer coating, cleaned it, applied new laqueur from a spray can, and re-installed it. Within a few montyhs it was again showing tarnish, so I again cleaned it and this time applied laqueur with a brush. Same result.
Is there any way of applying laqueur, or some other coating, so that the coating will last longer than a few months?

The beauty of brass is in the neat colors that it becomes as it ages.
Why do you not want to show this off?

This fixture has no "neat colors". It just looks ugly and tarnished.

It it actully laqueur you are using. I have had good results with true solvent laqueur.
